Pete and Repete were sitting on a fence.

After just telling Shawn at the Entroporium to not stop blogging I started going through my list of 50+ blogs on Bloglines and again started to feel depresssed about the state of mp3 blogs. There are a lot of good ones out there, but the focus lately seems to be on one thing, indie/alternative music. The result is a plethora of blogs repeating the same thing over and over and over again. It's as if each writer is not taking the time to look outside their window at the surrounding world. With each new blog popping up, the amount of repetition is only increasing. I don't know how many (insert band here) posts can be done or how many times the band can be mentioned, but it seems to be reaching a tipping point. I find that I'm starting to remove blogs from my bloglines list...

Maybe I should just post some more obscure bad 80's band and stop whining.

I enjoy BOTH your blog and Shawn's, and would hate to see either of you bow out.

Your focus on the hard to find and obscure, particularly things that have not been officially digitized, sets GrapeJuicePlus apart, as did Shawn's series "My So Called Punk Life" on Entroporium.

I totally agree with you, even though I find myself falling into the category of repetition as well. I try to not post the same mp3's as everyone else out there.

No disagreement here either!

There's a lot of fey pop-indie material around that is threatening to float the blog community away! There are master exponents of the genre, of course, but much of it IS merely generic.

Living in a backwoods small town where indie/alternative music is practically outlawed, I appreciate all of the blogs that introduce me to what is for me hard to find music.

That being said, however, the blog world has become quite repetitive lately. I'm as guilty as the next cat, but I do try to mix it up a bit. I'd love to see more variety in the more popular blogs and more specialized new blogs like Benn loxo du taccu.

And you can never have enough obscure bad music from any decade.

As you probably know what happens is an interesting or at least promising artist will email multiple bloggers with their new work. Then almost everyone wants to help raise the exposure level of this band (Bullette, The Spectacular Fantastics). I'm ok with this as each blogger has their own distinct readership with only some overlap.

My recent pet peeve however is not finding any music to download while trolling through the aggregators. Too often people aren't writing about music and instead are writing about movies, pop culture or worse yet what they did that day (I Don't Care!)

Anyway keep up the good work, keep posting and just try to ignore everything else - that's my plan.

Lots of good comments...I'm not planning on bowing out yet, although at times the burden seems more than the worth. And I don't disagree with the fact that I've discovered lots of great music through blogs, most of my purchases over the last year have been as a result of blogs. It's just the last couple of months I've noticed the repetition...and it's not horrible, it just bums me out. It's starting to feel like top 40 radio for the indie world, where you'd hear Bloc Pary, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem and MIA every hour. And for the most part, I like the bands...

And, just for the record, my intention here was not to make people think I was going to quit. I was just whining. I'm good at it, I live with a 7 and 3 1/2 year old.

Also, it's very reassuring to see who's making comments as well as the blogs mentioned - Entroporium, Benn loxxo du taccu, Songs: Illinois, Indoor Fireworks, Gutterbreakz, etc. ....all great blogs, and on my daily circuit.

And I know, I've been repetitive myself at times. I try to not do it, but it does happen. Maybe the problem is that with the increase of blogs, the chance of repetition just goes up and up.
